Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray
Chairman of RICE Group and Chancellor of Adamas University
Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray has been the life and soul behind RICE Education since it was established in 1985. Prof. Ray started his career as a software professional in the 1980s and quickly realized that not many candidates from West Bengal were able to qualify for the state and national competitive examinations.
RICE Education began with a single classroom and a small group of students in the northern fringes of Kolkata. Reaping the benefits of the courses at RICE, countless candidates from the state have gone on to secure government jobs.
Today, the name RICE Group is synonymous with success in Bengal — and the man who has always held the reins to steer us toward excellence is Prof. Samit Ray.
Chairman’s Message
Dear Students,
For West Bengal to sustain its rightful place in terms of power, dignity, and influence—whether in education, innovation, culture, or administration—we must nurture a new generation of leaders committed to public service and nation-building. One of the most effective pathways to such leadership is the Civil Services Examination.
Bengal has historically been the cradle of brilliance. Our students are intelligent, hardworking, and full of potential. Yet, too often, their dreams remain limited to becoming doctors or engineers. While these professions are invaluable, our call is higher. Bengal must once again produce more officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) who will stand at the forefront of governance and nation-building.
The first Indian to join the Indian Civil Service under the British Raj was a Bengali — Satyendranath Tagore, the elder brother of the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He was followed by a number of Bengalis – including Surendra Nath Banerjee who refused to surrender to irrational dictates of his British superiors and earned the nickname `Surrender Not’, and Subhas Chandra Bose who succeeded in the Indian Civil Service examination but refused to join the imperial bureaucracy to serve the cause of the freedom of his motherland. In the immediate aftermath of independence Bengal’s presence in the IAS – the successor of ICS – was commendable. We need to carry forward this proud legacy of Bengal in governance and administration. Our mission is to guide and empower you with the right training, exam-oriented study materials, and a nurturing ecosystem to enable you to succeed in the UPSC examination. Only when students of Bengal reach Delhi as future administrators, decision-makers, and changemakers Bengal, nay India, will find new strength and prosperity. Through your success, Bengal will rise, and India will prosper.
With faith in you and in the spirit of Bengal,
Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray
