NAVYA Programme: Vocational Training for Adolescent Girls

Context

  • Recently, Under the NAVYA (Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls) programme, 1,060 girls have been trained from 15 States/UTs.
  • The Government has decided to expand the NAVYA programme to 100 Aspirational Districts across the country with effect from 27 May 2026.

About NAVYA Programme

  • Full Form: Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls (NAVYA).
  • Launch: 24 June 2025.
  • Nodal Ministries:
    • Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)
    • Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD)
  • Target Group: Girls aged 16–18 years with a minimum Class 10 qualification.
  • Target: 3,850 girls under PMKVY 4.0.
  • The initiative particularly focuses on underserved and tribal regions.
  • It seeks to bridge the gap between education and livelihood by providing industry-aligned vocational training and opportunities for employment, self-employment, internships and apprenticeships.

Implementation & Coverage

  • NAVYA was initially implemented as a pilot programme across 27 Aspirational and North-Eastern districts in 19 States.
  • The Government has now decided to expand it to 100 Aspirational Districts.
  • The programme is aligned with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
