India-France Textile Collaboration

India-France Textile Collaboration

Context

  • Recently, the Bharat Tex Trade Federation (BTTF) and Première Vision SA, a leading international platform for fashion, textiles and sourcing, signed a multi-year strategic MoU in Paris to establish a multi-year institutional partnership aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with the global fashion and textile ecosystem.

Key Areas of Collaboration

  • Delegation & Knowledge Sessions: Reciprocal participation of exhibitors, experts, speakers and delegations, along with buyer-seller meets.
  • Export Promotion & Market Linkages: Joint export promotion, reverse buyer-seller meets and exchange of market intelligence.
  • Sustainability: Promotion of circularity, traceability and responsible production.
  • Heritage & Craftsmanship: Creation of an Eternal Crafts Collaboration to showcase Indian and French textile heritage.
  • It will include “A Living Thread,” showcasing Indian hand embroidery, handloom and heritage crafts alongside French textile traditions.

Connecting Indian Textiles with the Global Fashion Ecosystem

  • The partnership comes amid growing India-EU trade momentum, following the conclusion of negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in January 2026.
  • The agreement provided preferential market access covering 96.8% of tariff lines, accounting for 99.5% of India’s exports.
  • Around 90.7% of India’s exports by trade value are expected to become duty-free upon the agreement coming into force.
  • The textile and apparel sector is expected to benefit significantly from proposed zero-duty access across textile and clothing tariff lines.
  • The EU’s global textile and apparel imports stood at approximately US$292.8 billion in 2025, while India’s textile and apparel exports to the EU were around US$10.4 billion.

About Bharat Tex Trade Federation (BTTF)

  • It is an apex, non-profit industry body established to serve as the institutional backbone for India’s textile export ecosystem and to organize Bharat Tex—the world’s largest integrated textile trade fair.
  • It works to strengthen India’s textile and apparel industry’s global market linkages.
  • It brings together stakeholders across the textile value chain, including manufacturers, exporters, designers, buyers and artisans.
  • BTTF has its registered address in New Delhi and is associated with organizing Bharat Tex, with support from the Ministry of Textiles.

Conclusion

The India-France textile partnership represents a shift from traditional volume-based textile exports towards high-value, sustainable and design-led exports. By combining India’s manufacturing capabilities and rich textile heritage with Première Vision’s global fashion and sourcing network, the collaboration can strengthen India’s position as a premium, sustainable and innovative global textile sourcing destination.
