Context
- Recently, a 60-member Indian Armed Forces contingent departed for Oskemen, Kazakhstan, to participate in the ninth edition of the India–Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND.
About Exercise KAZIND-2026
- Participants: Indian Armed Forces and Kazakhstan Armed Forces.
- Edition: 9th edition of the exercise.
- Time of the Event: October 2026.
- Venue: Oskemen, Kazakhstan.
- Indian contingent: A battalion of the GARHWAL RIFLES, along with troops from other arms and services and personnel from the Indian Air Force.
- Kazakhstan contingent: Matching strength, drawn primarily from its Land Forces.
- Objective: To enhance interoperability and joint capability for Joint Counter-Terrorism operations in a sub-conventional environment under a United Nations mandate.
Training Objectives & Activities
- Terrain & Operations: Joint counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain, including raids, search-and-destroy, and cordon-and-search drills.
- Air Mobility: Training in helipad/landing-site security and Special Heliborne Operations.
- Joint Command & Intelligence: Establishment of a Joint Command Post and Intelligence and Surveillance Centre for coordinated operations.
- Technology Integration: Joint use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-UAS capabilities.
- Validation Exercise: Application of rehearsed tactics, techniques and procedures against a simulated terrorist threat.
