- The BIMSTEC Energy Centre (BEC) organised a five-day Capacity Building Programme on New & Emerging Technologies in Power Sector in Bengaluru.
About BIMSTEC Energy Centre (BEC)
- BEC is a regional institution created to coordinate, facilitate and strengthen energy cooperation among the seven BIMSTEC Member States.
- Its major areas include grid interconnection, hydropower, renewable energy, natural gas pipelines, energy efficiency, energy security and regional energy trade.
- The Centre is located at the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Establishment & Timeline
- 2005: The 1st BIMSTEC Energy Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi agreed to establish a BIMSTEC Energy Centre.
- 22 January 2011: Member States signed the Memorandum of Association (MoA) for establishing BEC.
- 27 February 2023: First meeting of the BEC Governing Board was held in Bengaluru and the first Executive Director was appointed.
- 8 November 2024: India and the BIMSTEC Secretariat signed the Host Country Agreement for establishing BEC in Bengaluru.
- 1 April 2025: BEC became operational in Bengaluru ….
