About Hyderabad Liberation Day
- Hyderabad Liberation Day is observed on September 17 every year to mark the integration of the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad into the Indian Union in 1948.
- Nizam’s Rule: After India gained independence on August 15, 1947, Hyderabad remained under the rule of Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, who chose to remain independent.
- Operation POLO: The Indian government launched a police action code-named Operation Polo on September 13, 1948, led by Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
