- The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) has strengthened surveillance, vaccination and disease-control measures to contain Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).
What is Lumpy Skin Disease?
- Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is a viral disease affecting cattle and buffaloes.
- It is caused by the Capripox virus.
- The disease is transmitted mainly through arthropod vectors.
- It is characterised by fever and skin nodules and is generally associated with low mortality.
- In India, LSD was first reported in West Bengal and Odisha in September 2019.
