India observed National Sports Day to commemorate the 121st birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, with celebrations held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.
The 2026 celebrations centred on the nationwide ‘Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein’ initiative, encouraging citizens – especially youth-to devote at least one hour to sports and physical activity and strengthening the Fit India Movement.
