Context

• The 13th edition of the India–Sri Lanka bilateral maritime exercise, SLINEX-26, was conducted at Visakhapatnam from 17 to 21 September 2026.

About SLINEX-26

• SLINEX is the Sri Lanka–India bilateral maritime exercise conducted between the Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy.
• Origin: The exercise was conceptualised in 2005 and has evolved into an important. platform for strengthening maritime cooperation, interoperability and mutual understanding.
• Indian Navy: INS Kavaratti, an indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette, and INS Jyoti, a Fleet Tanker, are participating.
• Sri Lanka Navy: SLNS Sindurala is participating in the exercise.

Key Phases

• Harbour Phase: Includes professional interactions, cross-deck visits, sharing of best practices, Yoga, sports and cultural activities.
• Sea Phase: Focuses on enhancing operational synergy and interoperability through coordinated activities at sea.

Significance

• Strengthens maritime cooperation and interoperability between India and Sri Lanka.
• Enhances mutual understanding and operational coordination between the two Navies.
• Supports India’s vision of MAHASAGAR and its commitment to a secure, stable and inclusive maritime environment.
