What is the Skill India Mission?
- The Skill India Mission, launched on 15 July 2015, is the Government of India’s flagship initiative to skill, reskill and upskill the youth through industry-relevant training, enhancing employability, entrepreneurship and quality job opportunities.
- The Mission aims to build a future-ready workforce in emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Green Energy and Industry 4.0.
Achievement
- Over 6 crore individuals have been trained under various Skill India initiatives.
Restructured Skill India Mission (2022–26)
In February 2025, the Union Cabinet approved the restructured Skill India Mission (2022–26) by merging three flagship schemes into a single Central Sector Scheme:
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0)
- Prime Minister’s National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS)
- Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS)

- Aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
- Integrated with DigiLocker and the National Credit Framework (NCrF).
- Focus on industry-led skilling, reskilling and upskilling.
