About

  • PM-KISAN is a Central Sector Scheme launched by the Government of India on 24 February 2019 (effective from 1 December 2018).
  • It is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
  • The scheme provides income support of ₹6,000 per year to eligible landholding farmer families.
  • Funding: 100% funded by the Central Government.
  • The amount is transferred in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 every four months through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
  • Identification of Beneficiaries: State Governments and Union Territory Administrations verify and upload eligible beneficiaries.

Objectives

  • Supplement farmers’ income for agricultural and allied activities.
  • Reduce dependence on informal credit.
  • Promote timely purchase of farm inputs and improve agricultural productivity.

Eligibility

  • All eligible landholding farmer families.
  • A family is defined as husband, wife, and minor children.
  • Aadhaar authentication/e-KYC is mandatory for receiving benefits.
