What is the Clouded Leopard?
- The Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) is a medium-sized, arboreal wild cat found in the forests of South and Southeast Asia.
- It is considered one of the oldest evolutionary lineages among living cats and is known for its cloud-like coat patterns, exceptional climbing ability and long canine teeth.
Distribution
- Globally, it is found from Nepal, Bhutan and Northeast India to southern China and Southeast Asia.
- In India, it occurs in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim and parts of North Bengal.
Habitat
- It inhabits tropical and subtropical evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests, bamboo forests and montane forests, where it spends much of its time in trees.
